Letting my mind go and not thinking about where I was placing the paint was a challenge for me. Breaking away from technical art I am so used to creating was a surprising exploration I learned a lot from.

I have always been a very technical artist who has a tendency to focus on every detail. If I was to draw a chair, you would see the exact chair I was meaning to draw. So for me to break away from that type of realism into a more abstract free flowing painting exercise was a challenge for me. I had to really focus my mind and painting hand to not place paint on the canvas but rather quickly grab various colors at the same time and move my hand and arm across the canvas without thinking of how it would look. It was a several step process using several layers of paint in an impasto style until the piece felt right to me. These canvases hang on my wall 3 feet by 3 feet in size.
